ADAMA Barroz: Product Overview

ADAMA Barroz is a granular insecticide containing Cartap Hydrochloride 7.5% w/w + Emamectin Benzoate 0.25% w/w GR. Its verified Indian use is the control of yellow stem borer (Scirpophaga incertulas) in rice.

Barroz combines two insecticide modes of action. Cartap hydrochloride is an IRAC Group 14 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor channel blocker. Emamectin benzoate is an IRAC Group 6 glutamate-gated chloride-channel allosteric modulator. ADAMA describes the combination as neuromuscular disruption with stomach and contact action against the target pest.

This is a dry granule for field broadcasting, not a liquid foliar spray. The official major-use record specifies 7.5 kg of formulation per hectare, no spray-water volume and a 35-day pre-harvest interval. ADAMA's Barroz literature gives the corresponding practical recommendation of 3 kg per acre.

Why farmers choose itWhy Choose Barroz?
  • Verified rice use: both ADAMA India and the Registration Committee identify rice yellow stem borer as the target.
  • Dual IRAC identity: Cartap is Group 14 and Emamectin benzoate is Group 6.
  • Granular application: ADAMA directs users to mix Barroz granules with sand for uniform field application.
  • Regional timing guidance: the company literature provides separate tillering-stage windows for South/East and North India.
  • Clear residue interval: the official major-use table states a 35-day PHI rather than substituting a days-after-transplanting limit.

Product scienceHow Barroz Works
  1. Cartap action: Cartap hydrochloride blocks insect nicotinic acetylcholine receptor channels, interrupting normal nerve and muscle signalling.
  2. Emamectin action: Emamectin benzoate modulates glutamate-gated chloride channels, producing neuromuscular disruption and paralysis in susceptible larvae.
  3. Resistance stewardship: Barroz already contains Groups 14 and 6. Do not automatically follow it with another Cartap, Bensultap, Thiocyclam, Emamectin or Abamectin treatment. If another intervention is necessary, choose a separately applied product from a different effective IRAC group whose own Indian label covers rice and the target pest.

Company timing guide: apply at 15-25 days after transplanting in South and East India, or 25-35 days after transplanting in North India. ADAMA's literature also warns against making a second Barroz application after 35-40 days after transplanting. These timing statements do not replace the 35-day PHI.

Useful detailsHow to Apply and Use Safely
  • Measure the label dose accurately. Mix the granules with dry sand and broadcast the mixture uniformly as directed by the current pack.
  • Do not dissolve Barroz in a spray tank, publish an ml-per-litre conversion, or treat its 3 kg pack as a liquid application.
  • No fertilizer-mixing or tank-mix recommendation is made here. Related and rotation products are standalone alternatives under their own labels.
  • ADAMA specifically instructs users to wear safety hand gloves during application. Follow the current pack for all additional PPE, hygiene, first-aid, storage and disposal directions.
  • The Registration Committee requires the warning that the product is highly toxic to bees exposed to direct treatment; avoid application during active bee foraging. It is also very toxic to aquatic invertebrates. Prevent granules, runoff and containers from contaminating water bodies.
  • Keep the product in its original labelled container and away from children, food and animal feed. If exposure occurs, seek medical advice and show the label; no unverified antidote statement is supplied on this page.
